ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Monday afternoon, Our Blood Institute’s Donable Cares campaign donated an $1180 check to the Long Term Tornado Relief Fund, marking the beginning of the partnership with the United Way.

“When you go out and donate blood, you’re really helping all those victims and their families and rebuilding what was lost,” Donables ambassador Liv Walbeck said.

Starting this Saturday at the Love County Boots and Badges blood drive, you can help save a life by donating blood and also help families recovering from tornadoes in Murray, Carter and Love counties.

“You’re not just helping through giving your blood, you’re actually giving money back too,” Walbeck added.

All you have to do is sign up for an appointment to donate blood at any location using a QR code and $15 will be donated from the Donables Cares campaign to directly help tornado victims and their families as they recover.

“We will serve three groups, we will serve individuals whose housing was impacted, we will serve businesses, and we are also looking to serve the communities,” Executive director with the United Way of South Central Oklahoma Bryce Chitwood said.

Chitwood says they’re working together to fulfill the needs of impacted communities.

“The impact in Sulphur is very different than the impact in Marietta,” Chitwood said. “That’s one of the things the committee is looking at is how do we make sure we tailor the assistance to those communities individually,” Chitwood added.

The Love County Boots and Badges blood drive begins at 11am Saturday at the Southern Tech Center in Marietta.
